American Subcontractors Association Michigan
November 2011 General Membership Meeting

Two dozen were in attendance for November’s general membership meeting to hear Steven K. Stawski, an attorney with Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge. His topic was “The Pitfalls of the UCC, Materials Suppliers and Bank Sweeps.”

Stawski began by mentioning that his firm, which represents Construction, Real Estate and Financing, would soon be moving into the Flat Iron Building. He praised the quality of the renovation, saying “the level of work here and in West Michigan is out of sight.”

Stawski spoke about the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), which governs everything that isn't permanent. That means everything you see in the building around you – the bricks, wood, and lights – is governed by the UCC (in other words, all the products brought to the project).

Highlights of Stawski’s comments can be found in the members section.
